The framework defines requirements across several domains. Phase 4: Validation and assessment (weeks 25 through 30). Perform a pre-assessment or internal audit to verify readiness. Address any remaining gaps. Engage external assessors if formal certification or attestation is required.
Phase 5: Continuous monitoring (ongoing). Establish processes for ongoing compliance monitoring, periodic reassessment, and continuous improvement. Security is not a destination; it is a continuous process.
Treating compliance as a project rather than a program. Organizations that sprint to pass an audit and then relax until the next cycle are not actually secure. Build compliance activities into daily operations.

Failing to engage leadership. Framework implementation requires budget, organizational change, and cross-functional coordination. Without executive sponsorship, security teams lack the authority and resources to succeed.
OWASP ASVS does not exist in isolation. Organizations often need to comply with multiple frameworks simultaneously. Mapping controls across frameworks (crosswalking) reduces duplicate effort. Many controls satisfy requirements in multiple frameworks, so a single implementation can address several compliance obligations.
